Out and about

Hello everyone.

Again, it still seems it's a bit early in the year for quilt events but March is literally just around the corner and from there on in, there will be plenty of shows and exhibitions to go and see.

In the meantime though, I stumbled across this blog: Quilt Inspiration which has some AMAZING quilts to look at and well, inspire!  Check it out if you get a chance - the most recent blog post has an incredible array of quilts on show.

Until next week, stay safe and thanks for reading!

Out and about

Howdy everyone.

There aren't any quilt shows this coming weekend that I have seen advertised but there are a few coming up in the next few months that you might like to put in your calendars:

Also, one of our members attended the Forest Glade Gardens in Mt Macedon and had rave reviews for it.  Click on the link for details of the gardens and the Stokes Collection Museum.

That's about it for this post.  For our members though, a reminder to get your 2013 Challenge quilts finished asap - we will be working on them if help is needed for the next 2 meetings, along with your welcome hexies.

Have a great rest of the week.

February 2013 group meet

Hello everyone.

Apologies for the delay in posting but yesterday was really busy and time just ran out!  But today I can show you what our members have been working on over the past month.

There isn't a lot to show from yesterday's meeting as a few of the quilts will be going to judged competitions like the 2014 ACQ Challenge and the Victorian Quilters Inc. Showcase

And as we will be displaying our 2013 challenge quilts at this year's  Australian Quilt Convention, we will wait until then before putting them on the blog and facebook pages so we can give you a lovely surprise when you visit AQC!

Our members have also been making up personalised hexagons to be put together and kept as an ongoing emblem and representation of the group and it's members, both past and present.  This will also be on display with our challenge quilts at the AQC which means you will have to wait until then to see those too.

Our group meet yesterday saw us celebrate 5 years together!  It was a great chance for members to review all that has been achieved in the past 5 years as well as speculate as to what is to come in future years for the group.

To start off we got to see some completed challenge blocks for this year which comprises using pre-cuts.  January's challenge was to use jelly rolls and it's clear that the challenge is off to a fantastic start:

February's challenge was issued and it is to use 5" charm squares.  The girls gave us these examples for inspiration:

There were quite a few 2013 challenge quilts up for show and tell but as mentioned before, they will be posted about after they have been on show at the Australian Quilt Convention.  We did have a few other items though:
 Sam's book cover
 Di's nearly completed WIP
Jen's WIP confetti quilt which she undertook at a Caroline Sharkey workshop
Helen E's jelly roll strip quilt
Helen D's Peter Rabbit baby quilt
and the back of the Peter Rabbit baby quilt

There are a couple of upcoming events for our quilt group including a road trip for our May meeting where we will head to Kyneton, Castlemaine and Ballan fabric shopping which has generated fantastic interest within the group.  Also, at our next meeting in March we are having a blade sharpening service fundraiser which means that scissors, secateurs and rotary blades can be sharpened for a reduced fee in house at our meeting rooms in Lower Plenty.  Sounds like a great excuse to come along get your blades sharpened AND check us out in case you are interested in becoming a member at the same time!!

Well that's about it for now.  I'll have some upcoming events later in the week to put in your diary in case you want to lock them in now.

Have a great rest of the weekend, and thanks for reading.

Out and about

Hello everyone.

First up, we are holding our second meeting for the year this coming Saturday, 15 Feb, starting at 10am at the Lower Plenty Senior Citizens Centre, 86 Main Road Lower Plenty.  The group is actually celebrating its 5th birthday!  So come along if you would like to see what we get up to and possibly become a member!

Secondly, there isn't much on (that I can see) quilting wise this weekend but I did come across one exhibition that is being held in Upwey and it looks really interesting.  It is the "Isabel Foster: The Challenge of Colour" exhibition being held until 16 March at the Burrinja Gallery.
The opening description of the exhibition on the Gallery's website reads " Explore delightfully bright, bold and bizarre textiles created by 92-year old artist Isabel Foster."
I'm guessing there won't be any quilting but it is textile related!
Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 10.30am to 4.00pm and here is the Gallery's website if you would like to know more:  Burrinja Gallery

Thanks for reading.

Out and about

Hello there!

This week it might be more about staying in and keeping cool rather than getting out and about!

There aren't any quilting events that I can report on and as Saturday is gearing up to be stinker of a day with a 40 degree temperature forecast for most of Victoria, it might pay to go where there is air conditioning and keeping cool!  Maybe a browse at your local fabric shop for an hour or seven??!

Whatever you get up to keep cool and see you next week.

Thanks for reading!
