Background
How things can change in a single minute. The Victorian fires on Black Saturday certainly did that. How do you react to such a devastating and far reaching event? As quilters it all seems too simple. We ACT.
The 9th of Feb 2009 saw Deb Layt of The Patchwork Gallery sending out an email to a few local patchwork and quilting friends about having a sew fest at her house the next Wednesday. What an astounding reaction, from 9am to 9pm quilters came and went with donations of time, fabric, and wadding and as suggested, UFO’s so we could make some quilts for the survivors. There were also finished quilts in the mix so we were off to a great start. By the end of a tiring but very satisfying day some decisions had been made. This was something we all wanted to continue with, making quilts for others in need to create a little comfort. It is what we do best.
To this end The Patchwork Gallery Quilt Group Inc. was formed.
Mission
The Patchwork Gallery
Quilt Group Inc. aims to assist individuals and groups in need by providing
comfort and warmth with the gift of a handmade quilt. In doing this we hope to
develop the skill base of our members whilst fostering a sense of pride and
achievement within the group.
