TPGQG Quilt Warms the Toes and the Heart of Kilmore Fire Victim
A few weeks ago, we were able to donate a lovely quilt to an elderly gentleman who lost his house and all his possessions in the Mickleham-Kilmore fire in February this year.
Jim Rose is 81 and lost his wife a couple of years ago. He lived alone on his 50 hectare property near Kilmore and was reluctant to leave his home when his neighbours called to evacuate him as the fire approached. He is now living with family in Melbourne while he decides what he wants to do.
Through a friend of Judy Backhouse, we made contact with Jim’s neighbour who, in concert with Jim’s sister, tried every excuse to encourage Jim to visit in early March so Judy could present the quilt in person. But Jim was reluctant to return to the scene of the fire. He eventually received his quilt in late March when he finally went back for a visit.
In his letter of thanks Jim wrote:
"I wish to thank you and the members of The Patchwork Gallery Quilting Group for the beautiful Scotty Dog Quilt which I received in March. Your kindness and thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated and was totally unexpected.
It has been a traumatic and daunting experience however I am astounded at the amount of compassion and kindness extended to me by people I do not know and cannot thank you enough for the help and assistance.
The quilt has taken pride of place on my bed and is so warm I will treasure it for a long long time. Thanking you all once again.
Yours sincerely
Jim Rose"
Following is a photo of Jim receiving his quilt.
This story is a great example of just why The Patchwork Gallery Quilt Group was created! (Thanks to Judy for providing the above.)
Have a great week.

Out and about
Hello there. Apologies for the delay in posting - my internet connection wasn't the best yesterday.
I hope this Good Friday is starting out to be a good one for you. It's a bit wet where I am so it's a perfect morning to stay inside until the sun decides to show.
I only came across one quilting event for this weekend:
**COLOURS OF KERANG "CALYPSO" QUILT EXHIBITION - KERANG QUILTERS**
When: 19 April - 10am-5pm; 20 April 10am-4pm
Where: Cnr Nolan & Wellington Street, Kerang....
Light refreshments available. Handcrafted goods available at the Members' Bazaar. Gail's Patchwork Emporium attending. Enquiries to Patti McDonald on 5457 0295
Entry: $5.
There are a heap of other art and craft events (amongst other things) happening around the State though this long weekend. Have a look at the RACV website for a comprehensive listing.
I do have another post regarding a quilt that was given to someone who was affected by the summer fires but I will leave that until I have better internet coverage (which will be soon!).
Here's hoping the Easter Bunny leaves you a lovely chocolate egg or 3. Have a hoppy Easter and thanks for reading.

Out and about
Hello everyone.
The only quilt event on this weekend is the Australasian Quilt Convention AQC being held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. It runs from today to Sunday, 10am to 4.30pm. Get yourselves down there for the best there is in Australian quilting and patchwork!
And one last post...at the second last group meeting Deb had a wall quilt that was to be a gift to her daughter which means we had to wait for it to be received before posting! Here it is: a vibrant green tree frog.
Until next week, have a great weekend.
Thanks for reading.
