Out and about and the unveiling of the 2013 Challenge Quilts

Hello everyone.

It's Thursday already and nearly the end of June.  I have no idea where it went, and I'm not sure it even happened it's gone that fast.

The only quilting event being held this weekend is the Craft and Quilt show at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, South Wharf. It runs until Sunday.

You may recall that I previously mentioned (a lot!) that the group is being represented at this year's show:

Here is our stand - minus rostered members I'm afraid!

This is the groups' hexie table runner.  Each member of the group has created a hexagon with their name on it and as new members join, hexagons will be added.  It will be a great record of all members, both past and present.

I can now finally reveal the 2013 Challenge quilts that the group created. They are all on show at the Fair:

The Challenge!

Helen E's quilt - "Quilters Dozen"

Ruth's quilt - "Summertime"

Jen's quilt - "Just Hanging in There"

Linda's quilt - "Japanese Rose"

Helen G's quilt - "Nature in Blue"

Deb's quilt - "Lavender Green"

Di's quilt - "Oriental Garden"

Christine's quilt - "West meets East"

Margaret's quilt - "Purple Sensation"

Helen D's quilt - "Texture and Colour"

Robyn's quilt - "My Challenge"

Therese's quilt - "Oriental Whispers"

They all look fantastic hanging up in Jeff's Shed.

Also, we have two members of the group with quilts entered into the Victorian Quilters Inc. Quilt Showcase at the Fair:

Here is Deb with her quilt "Fire and Ice".  It was entered into the "Open - Art Quilts" section

This is Di's quilt - "Kiwi Warriors".  It is a huge quilt sized at 240cm square and contains an amazing amount of free motion quilting detail.

By the time I left the show early this afternoon, Deb had a white ribbon on her quilt!  She won a 'Highly Commended' award.  Congratulations Deb!

If you can get down to the show it is highly recommended.  Apart from us being there, there is nothing like viewing quilts hanging up in all their glory - unfortunately photos don't do them (or their makers) the justice they deserve.

Have a great rest of the week, and thanks for reading.

June 2014 Group Meet

The Patchwork Gallery Quilt Group met up today  - it's been awhile in between meetings!

First up are the 2014 Pre-Cuts challenge blocks to date:

This last photo is an example of the final instalment of our 2014 block challenge blocks using whatever pre-cuts we fancy and in any combination.

We had a few things for show and tell:

Robyn's table quilt which is based on a Judy Niemeyer (Quiltworx) pattern

and a close up of Robyn's amazing work

Sue's re-hashed 9-patch block quilt where she stacked the 9-patches, slashed them and turned them (I think I have this right??!) and created totally different blocks

Sarah's beautiful applique quilt for her daughter

Yumi's WIP Mocha quilt (a TPG class) - the fabric colours and stitching are beautiful!

Ruth's table runner which recycles unused blocks from another project

Helen E's bag featuring 3D triangular pattern in the centre

Helen E's vibrant interlocking jelly roll quilt top

 Judy's "Tessellation Bristol" quilt

 Judy's "Labyrinth Walk" quilt

another of Jen's completed Caroline Sharkey workshop piece

Jen's Richmond Football Club quilt which is a fantastic birthday present for her dad

Deb's "Monochromatic" quilt which she is teaching as a class at The Patchwork Gallery

Deb's mini quilt which she was inspired to make after receiving a fat eighth of Japanese fabric from fellow quilt member Yumi (who had recently been to Japan and brought back fabric for her fellow classmates!)

Helen's quilt made for a friend's baby

In other news from today's meeting, there was a unanimous vote that the road trip held in May was a great success and will now be an annual event for the group. As we are having our bi-annual quilt show next year, the road trip will most likely take place in September 2015.

Finally, we will see you at the Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair starting this coming Thursday, 26 June. We will have membership forms at our stall so it will be a great opportunity for you to join up if you are keen as well as see our work up close and chat with a member. Bring your cash so you can join up on the spot (we won't have EFTPOS facilities)!  There will be another post next week showing off our 2013 challenge quilts which are a part of the Quilt Fair.

Until then, have a great week and thanks for reading!
