February 2015 Group meeting

Firstly, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to The Patchwork Gallery Quilt Group - 6 years young!

The group met up today in Lower Plenty with some beautiful quilts on show. The group had its AGM and Julie from Banksia Palliative Care attended the meeting to discuss with members the work the organisation does for the northern region of Melbourne.

Morning tea was had by all and even some Ginger Fluff birthday cake, which was generously made by Therese!  Thanks Therese!

There were quite a few lovely quilts on show today:

Yumi's spectacular lone star quilt - hand pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted no less and 13 years in the making!  It was well worth the wait

An apology is in order - the colours have totally blown out in this photo - the pinks are actually quite saturated with orange through them.  This is Yumi's completed Mocha quilt (TPG class).  To see it in all its glory come to our quilt show on 21-22 March!

Sarah's completed lovely children's applique quilt

 Sarah's completed challenge quilt

Sarah's big boy quilt featuring trucks and diggers

The first of a few charity quilts completed by Sue

 and another

 Heather's vibrant Mexican inspired quilt

 Therese's quilted birdcage quilt

Therese's practice applique and quilting quilt!!!!  (Just quietly, I think she is done practising applique and quilting)

a nearly completed gift by Therese for a special lady to remind her of her garden

a close up of the appliqued butterfly

and a close up of that lovely blue wren

A self imposed challenge for Jen to create one quilt a month for 12 months - this is January's design

 and February's design

and even March's design (it isn't even March yet!)

a sample of bridal tulle from Jen which she has seen her hand stitch lace to - it is the basis of the design for her daughter's wedding dress which she will be making this year

 Di's amazing Kiwi quilt

Di's completed colourful textures and tucks quilt (TPG class)

Di's striking purple and orange quilt

This is only a taste of what will be on show at our exhibition next March.  Definitely save the date :

at the
Lower Plenty Senior Citizens Community Centre, 86 Main Street.

It will be spectacular!

For members, please bring a small plate to share, your show and tell, and any additional show trade table items. There will also be a sewing bee to complete some drop cloths for our quilt show scheduled on 21 and 22 March.
